I have been moved and shocked by what Japan is going through. I decided to raise money for the Tsunami Appeal by releasing a download album, and set up a mini charity Help Japan Music in conjunction with this.

The album is extremely eclectic, featuring genres spanning folk, acoustic, chilled instrumental electronica, dubstep, klezmer, indie, world music, performance poetry,and many tracks so brimming with originality that genre names haven't been invented for them. It's an album that really conjures up an emotional, pensive, moving and uplifting atmosphere. Several of the artists on the album are signed and are well on their way to having a big break in the music world. All the rest deserve to be.

I'm hoping to add new artists and tracks to the compilation, as free downloads to those who have already bought the album, or as a 2nd album. I'm gathering together merchandise from the artists and hoping to release a CD of the album, all of which will be offered at a later stage to those who donate, perhaps, £15, or more. Don't let this stop you buying now, as anyone who has already bought the download will be entitled to these offers.
Japan will need incredible amounts of money to recover and rebuild its devastated county. By donating to the British Red Cross Tsunami Appeal, you can be confident that the money you donate will be effectively used for aid and recovery. Aid systems have massively improved since the Indian Ocean tsunami, where aid from money donated didn't always reach its destination quickly or effectively. It is expected that in the Japanese tragedy, money received by The Japanese Red Cross will be much more effectively spent to save and rebuild lives and infrastructure. Japan's recovery will take years, so just because there is less press than at the time of the tragedy, money is and will be urgently needed.
